MSOC: C-USA QF 2 - (6) Florida Atlantic 0, (3) Charlotte 0 (2OT; FAU 5-3 PKs)

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – After 90 minutes and two overtime periods resulted in a 0-0 tie, No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic (8-6-3) made all five penalty kicks to advance over No. 3 seed and host Charlotte in the second quarterfinal game of the 2021 C-USA Men's Soccer Championship at Transamerica Field.
 
The Owls advance to the semifinals Friday against No. 2 seed Marshall at 7 pm ET/6 pm CT.
 
After a scoreless 90 minutes in which the 49ers (10-5-1) outshot the Owls 12-4 overall, the teams went to overtime. In OT, Charlotte had one shot on goal in the second extra session, but FAU goalkeeper Neil Strauber made the save with 24 seconds left.
 
The game went to penalty kicks, and the Owls were successful on all five attempts. Charlotte made three of its first four PKs to trail 4-3 in the shootout after four rounds, but FAU's Alonso Coello Camarero made his attempt to send the Owls to the semifinals.
 
Charlotte outshot FAU 12-4 overall, and had a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Strauber stopped three shots for the Owls, while Charlotte's netminder Daniel Kuzemka made a pair of stops.
